The faint sound of bombing...

KW - Year 4

The Best Day Ever... The faint sound of bombing awoke Billy from his sunbathing and sent a chill down his spine, even though it was a warm day. The birds were swooping in the blue sky and looking down on the children playing hopscotch in the streets; among the rubble and the bits of shrapnel. Billy was busy sunbathing in the warmth of the sun. The day felt as hot as a burning fire. Billy lay on the grass thinking about his brother Frank who was 19 and old enough to be fighting in the war. Billy missed him so much but nobody seemed to know how long he would be away. It might be years before he would see him again. Billy's mum came out and brought Billy out of his daydream and back down to earth with a bump, saying it was time for lunch and that she had a surprise for him. As Billy skipped in he suddenly stopped, for there was his brother Frank... sat at the table large as life! Billy flung himself into Frank's arms. Billy wanted that moment to go on forever, but even though it didn't; it left Billy feeling it was a very special moment.
