What's Behind the Door?
LP - Year 6
Ali stood silently, looking at the door. With a slow creaking sound, it opened. Taking a deep breath, Ali walked inside. It was almost pitch black. Ali groped around so as not to lose the door and, mercifully, managed to grab hold of the handle. It was cold as ice. Ali felt a bolt of chill surge through him. It was still dark. In the inky gloom, Ali wasn’t even sure if his eyes were open or shut. It wouldn’t have mattered. He wrapped his arms around himself, trying to keep warm. After a few moments, his eyes started to adjust. He found he was in a long hall with a set of stairs at the far end. He found an old cracked mirror and examined himself. The Ali looking back at him was as deathly pale as his olive-skin would go, and his pupils had dilated so much that his dark brown irises were hardly visible. He saw ornaments shaped like dragons and monsters and gargoyles behind him. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw something that made him turn round. A trail of fresh footprints was clearly seen in the settled carpet of untouched dust, leading to a small door under the stairs. With a mounting sense of dread, Ali lifted his hand and pushed the door open.
