The Key to the Trapdoor
JW - Year 3
“Come on” cried Jasmine. Megan carefully climbed of the merry-go-round. “Let’s go to the store” declared Jasmine. They skipped to the store. “I’m glad Mum let us go here” Megan sighed happily. The girls stopped when they were in front of the store. The candyfloss looked like fluffy pink clouds.
“Look!” Jasmine called. Megan jogged over to where Jasmine was standing. It was a shiny gold key. “It must open that trapdoor in the ground!” pointed Megan. What was behind the trapdoor? Jasmine and Megan were going to find out.
But then out of no where a ragged man appeared. He was shouting by the look of it and the two girls were really alarmed. They quickly unlocked the trapdoor and rushed into the darkness. Jasmine and Megan scrambled past cold walls and wet floors. Megan was running out of breath.
“Follow me” Jasmine whispered. Grabbing Megan’s arm, Jasmine steered Megan into a small cave. It was gloomy and murky. Jasmine and Megan crouched as small as a mouse, behind a boulder. The shabby man appeared at the entrance of the cave. But that was when Jasmine and Megan realized that he wasn’t alone. The ragged man was with a red eyed, fierce dog. The man and the dog were advancing menacingly, Megan and Jasmine could see the dog’s shiny white teeth glinting like knives. Megan and Jasmine were shaking and shivering with terror.
Suddenly the trapdoor slammed shut. “They’ve got away” hissed the man, who was furious, as he grabbed the vicious dog’s collar carelessly. The girls waited until the sound of pitter pattering of feet faded away. “Let’s explore” Megan urged. Megan and Jasmine walked on. “Look! There’s a box full of jewellery! Jasmine gasped. “Let’s bring it home” Megan suggested. So Megan and Jasmine clambered out of the trapdoor and bolted, as fast as they could, back home.
When they got to their home their Dad didn’t believe that they had found jewellery. He only believed it when they showed him the jewellery. He was speechless, he imediatly phone the police. The police, who were very surprised, rewarded the girls with four medals each, The police told the girls that the jewellery was stolen from a jewellery shop down the road. Megan could imagine the headlines “TWO GIRLS FIND PRICELESS JEWELLERY!” Megan and Jasmine were very proud with what they did.
